ARR2020 Wrap-Up

Last weekend, I was fortunate enough to attend A Romantic Rendezvous, an author signing run by the Australian Romance Reader’s Association. I’ve been in the past as a reader, but this was the first time I’d had an opportunity to be on the author’s side of the desk.

In this uncertain time, with the very real threat of Covid-19 hovering overhead, the event was a little on the quiet side as many people made the (understandable) decision to stay at home, but I still had the opportunity to meet a bunch of new readers and even a couple who’d read some of my books before they came.

I shared a table with the wonderful M.L Tompsett (who took the above picture) and was fortunate enough to have my mum with me too, so there was excellent company all around. I also had the chance to catch up with some authors I knew, some authors I know only online, and the international author Darynda Jones. The more relaxed nature of the signing meant we were able to chat amongst ourselves every now and then, and it was lovely to catch up and share some writerly chat.

I also got to pick up my trophy for Favourite Debut Author 2019 (or, rather, it was waiting for me on my desk when I arrived) and the lovely Debbie (ARRA’s president) snapped this picture before I had a chance to get away. All in all, the day was lovely and I can’t wait to attend something similar in the future.

I don’t think I could close this post, however, without some reference to the virus that’s holding all of us hostage. It seems strange to think that only a week has passed by since the signing, with the current climate leading hubby and I to make the decision to self isolate as much as possible from this point onward. So, if you follow me on social media, stay tuned from here on out for posts about being locked in my house with the kids while we try and navigate this rocky terrain together.

To the rest of you out there – stay safe, as best you can. Tuck up on the couch with a good book, a hot cup of tea and a blankie, and with any luck, we’ll all get through this together.
